Free Online Food Safety Training Launched to Support NZ Food Businesses

The Government has launched a free online food safety training module to simplify and improve accessibility for food businesses, addressing previous challenges of cost and difficulty. Developed with industry input, this module is the first of six aimed at modernizing New Zealand’s food safety system to be fairer, more efficient, and responsive to business needs. Additional modules and initiatives are planned to further support the sector with appropriate, risk-based regulations and tools.

Manufacturing Regulations Simplified for Safety and Efficiency

Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Brooke van Velden is consulting with manufacturers, such as wood processors, bakers, and millers, to simplify machine guarding rules and review exposure standards in the manufacturing sector. The proposed changes aim to align standards with real-world risks and international benchmarks, addressing concerns about clarity and compliance burden. The review will also consider updating Workplace Exposure Standards for substances like wood dust and flour dust to ensure practicality and alignment with safety measures, aiming to reduce costs and stress for businesses.
