New Zealand Adopts US and EU Toy Safety Standards to Cut Costs and Boost Choice

The New Zealand Government will align its toy safety standards with those of the US and EU, allowing toys compliant with these international standards to be sold locally without additional testing costs. This update aims to reduce compliance expenses, enhance market attractiveness, increase product variety, and is expected to generate a net benefit of $6.8 million over 10 years while maintaining child safety. An exposure draft will be released for consultation, followed by a six-month transition period for suppliers to adapt to the new regulations.
