New Zealand Updates Science and Social Sciences Curriculum for Years 0-10 by 2027

Education Minister Erica Stanford has released fully updated Science and Social Sciences curricula for Years 0 to 10, providing clearer, more engaging learning pathways that reflect contemporary knowledge and societal needs. The refreshed curriculum emphasizes curiosity, critical thinking, civics, financial education, and understanding New Zealand’s history and place in the world, developed through extensive consultation with nearly 3,900 submissions and around 180 education experts. To support implementation starting in 2027, the Ministry of Education is offering resources, professional development, and a $39.9 million investment in science kits, ensuring teachers are well-equipped to deliver high-quality, knowledge-rich education.
