New Culverts Completed on SH3 to Boost Resilience and Safety in Taranaki

Two new culverts on State Highway 3 north of New Plymouth have been completed as part of the Government’s priority bridge replacement programme to enhance infrastructure resilience and ensure safe, reliable transport routes. The programme, included in the 2024-27 National Land Transport Programme, targets aging bridges and culverts across New Zealand, with several replacements and upgrades underway or planned to support freight, tourism, and local communities. Additionally, near Taumarunui, the Kururau Stream Water Drive bridge replacement is nearly finished, providing a modern, resilient structure to maintain safety and reliability on SH43.
