Lower Hutt’s Eastern Bays Shared Path Opens Enhancing Safety and Resilience

Lower Hutt’s new 4.4km Eastern Bays Shared Path and seawall along Marine Drive enhances coastal resilience, protects critical infrastructure, and provides safer walking and cycling connections between Point Howard and Eastbourne. The $81.9 million project, funded by the Government, NZTA, and Hutt City Council, was developed in partnership with iwi mana whenua and led by the Te Ara Tupua Alliance, with construction staged across multiple bays from 2023 to 2026. This infrastructure supports active travel, reduces congestion, and strengthens protection against waves, erosion, and extreme weather for the Eastern Bays communities.
