A new commercial vehicle safety centre has opened in Taupō to enhance road safety by monitoring heavy vehicles on busy freight routes using advanced technology like in-road scales and number plate recognition. This centre is part of a $200 million national network of 12 upgraded and new safety centres aimed at targeting high-risk operators, reducing serious crashes, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
